Searching for blogs

We have just released a new version of our site that includes the most requested feature: a search box. Before, you could find blogs based on the general top, their category or their tags. Still, with the number of blogs growing every day a search box was really needed.

You can now use the top search box to find blogs, based on their name, description, or tags inside the whole directory. The results are sorted by the general rankings, meaning you will always see the ‘best’ blogs first.

If you have any suggestions for us, please use the contact form, and, as you can see we are working to implement all of your good ideas, to bring TopOfBlogs one step closer to our goal: to become the best top of blogs directory.

Better thumbs

When we started, we were using thumbshots.org, which seemed to be the best solution for our thumbs (and not to mention it was free). After a few months we realized that this has some limitations:

We wanted to have something that shows users a recent quick look of how the blogs look rather than an archaic one. Also we wanted to make it easy for our members to easily refresh their own thumbs at anytime.

We found the perfect solution for our needs in Bluga.net WebThumb, a service that had all the requirements we needed and much more. This is not a free service, but we believe it is worth the money. As of today we have launched all the thumbs with the new format. Each blog has saved several sizes of its thumb and they can be seen on different parts of our site already (medium - blog rankings, large - sitedetails, etc.). We will add shortly the ability for members to refresh their own thumbs.

I hope you like this new feature as much as we do. We are looking forward to additional features very soon.

Graphical Statistics

We have just launched a new feature: a nice flash traffic graph, which is on the sitedetail pages. For now this shows the traffic details for the past 30 days, but in the future this will be extended to other types of stats too. I hope you will like this new addition.

Stay tuned for more updates…

After 2 months: 1,000 blogs and 12 Million pageviews tracked

This has been a very, very busy period, and 2 months after our soft launch we already count 1,090 registered blogs. This is very impressive and to be honest I did not expect to see these kinds of numbers after only 3-4 months. Thank you to every user that  submitted their blog in TopOfBlogs and we want to assure you that we are working every day to improve our service. The work we are doing may not always be visible as it may be to the backend or performance but you can be sure that we are working to make our system the best top of blogs available.

The number of tracked pageviews has also gone over 12 Million and this has happened without a single downtime or service interruption during this period. We are looking forward to the exciting months to come as we prepare to exit the ‘beta’ stage and have our ‘real’ launch in early 2008.

As always your feedback is welcomed, so feel free to send us your suggestions, ideas, bug reports, etc. at anytime.

We value and thank all the sites that have joined TopOfBlogs during these early days of the service.
I would like to say a special thank you in particular to the top sites (the ones that generate above 10,000 pageviews per day):

We really appreciate that you accepted our invitation to join TopOfBlog. Your early membership has been very valuable for our optimization team allowing them to see tha impact of real traffic coming immediately into the system. This was different compared to in-house benchmarks and helped us make adjustments early into the system.

Thanks again! Keep up the good work and the traffic growing :-).
